Teaching Philosophy

Teaching Philosophy

We offer a combination of Suzuki and traditional methods to our students stemming from over 20 years of teaching experience and higher education. This combination creates well-rounded musicians who not only have excellent “ears,” but are also able to read music and intelligently approach the standard literature for the violin. In lessons, we often accompany our students on the piano or violin to help develop musicality and complete understanding of a piece.

In the simplest terms, we strive to nurture a love of music and learning in our students. Lessons focus on musical expression, technical development, and understanding the mind-body connection. Students develop strong problem solving skills and the ability to learn tasks quickly. By supplementing our interest in the violin with aspects of learning, performance psychology, history, and theory, we hope to create well-rounded musicians and intellectuals.
